Constanta, Romania

Well, last day before heading into Afghanistan. We got here yesterday evening. The days have seemed so long and tiring. We're chasing the daylight, but can't seem to catch it. Every place we've been, because of the time change, we seem to just get there in time for dinner and bed.

The first night in St. John's, Newfoundland we lost an hour and a half and had a really early show the next morning, then when we got to Scotland, we lost another two and a half, and here in Romania we lost another 2. So here, we are 6 hours ahead. Unfortunately, James and my big sister are in California...so that's a nine hour difference... Then tomorrow, when we get into Bagram, we will lose another two..I guess I should be saying I'm gaining two...( I don't mind gaining them there...It just gets me two hours closer to getting home :)

Actually, I don't want to sound like I am only wanting to get back. I'm very excited to get there and start working!! I've trained so so so long to get here and I think I will feel very rewarded when this mission is complete. I just know how much I will miss my husband, family and friends with limited communication.

So far, the jet lag hasn't hit me. I had a little trouble sleeping last night, but I think that is only because I was trying so hard. We have a 2:30 am show tomorrow morning, and I'm flying the leg into Afghanistan, so I'm trying to stay as rested as possible. The past three nights I've also tried to take in all the comforts of my own room and comfy bed. I think I'm trying to absorb it so much it's keeping me awake... Only me, the overthinker :)

After trying to sleep in, I met some of my crew in the lobby to wander the streets of Romania. It is quite different than Scotland!! No green grass...lots of dogs..no dog walkers! We walked down to the Black Sea, the water was beautiful, but the beach was filled with stray dogs and filth! Now, back to the room to try to get some more rest. I miss you guys!!

Scotland

hello! Today, March 24, day 2 !!

Well, Scotland is exactly what I pictured it would be: grey skies, green grass, windmills, wellies and dog walkers!

It was quick reminder I wasn't home anymore when I couldn't even fit my bag into the elevator with anyone else. HA! yes, very embarrasing...stupid American. We actually had dinner and a few beers last night in an old church across from the hotel we stayed at. Hmmm...yep, it just didn't feel right. I had a great time, getting to know my crew better that I will be spending the next several weeks with. I feel very fortunate to have such great people surrounding me!

Today, I'm heading out to Romania. We should have a longer layover there. These early morning and time changes are starting to hit us, it will be nice to get a little rest before heading into the AOR. (area of responsibility....Afghanistan for us)

I'm being watched upon by several eyes waiting to get on here after me...so I'm keeping it short! I hope I will have more time tonight!!

Take care! ...miss everyone!

Newfoundland

Hello!!
Well, my big sister advised me to start this blog, I'm horrible at writing and keeping up with this stuff...but I'll do my best.

So, we got into St. John's, Newfoundland yesterday evening. We got to the hotel just in time to catch the second half of the UofL game. Yesterday was my 30th birthday, needless to say, it was pretty lame. St. John's is an hour and a half ahead of eastern time, and we had a 6:30 show time (5 am eastern) so with crew rest, I had time to drink 2 beers. I'm not complaining though, I realize in about 4 weeks two beers will sound outstanding!

Today, we are on our way to Prestwick. I've never been to Scotland so it will be a good experience.

Hmmm.... well, yeah... so that's my exciting life right now... pretty boring, eh?!
Maybe something big and exciting will happen in Scotland so people will come back to read my blog tomorrow... or maybe not...:)

I hope everyone back home is doing well! Kim Doyle...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! (Please tell Sydney thank you for painting my beautiful cards, I loved them) Andria- I loved yours too! They put a smile on my face as I looked out the window and saw all the families on the ground waving goodbye...it was tough!

Well, every chance I get internet access I will update my new blog. Hopefully, I will be able to add some pictures...

love you guys
